The City of Calgary has let us know that the remaining steel installation and concrete bridge deck work has been completed as part of the 9 Avenue S.E. bridge replacement project and the new bridge is scheduled to open for vehicle traffic the morning of Monday, February 28.
To accommodate the traffic switch from the temporary bridge, a full closure will be in place on 9 Avenue S.E. across the Elbow river, starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, until the new bridge is open in the early morning hours of Monday, February 28. Detour signage will be on-site to help direct traffic and access to the community and businesses will be maintained.
The bridge will be opening with two traffic lanes temporarily, until remaining construction is completed over the coming months, including preparing the bridge’s north and south multi-use pathways to open for cyclists and pedestrians in spring 2022. Additional priorities through the spring include removal of the temporary bridge and final landscaping.
The anticipated final completion of this project is spring 2022.
