12 St NE Bridge closure Saturday night

The 12 Street N.E. bridge over Memorial Drive will be temporarily closed to vehicle and pedestrian access as part of the City of Calgary's mobility improvements project. The closure will begin at 10p.m. on Saturday, September 17, reopening at 6a.m. on Sunday, September 18. In the event of unexpected delays, the closure may be extended on Sunday night.

This temporary, full closure is required for contractors to safely and quickly:

  • install traffic barriers on the west side of the bridge to accommodate pathway construction, and

  • apply temporary lane markings to reflect traffic flow changes during construction.

Starting Sunday morning, weather permitting, vehicle traffic will be altered for the duration of construction (approx. 3 months) with northbound traffic being reduced to a single lane. Drivers and pedestrians are advised to heed construction signage and stay out of marked construction areas.

There will also be some disruption to pathways in the vicinity of the bridge. Final path detour plans are still being finalized with the contractor. Pathway users are advised to watch for detour signage as early as next week. Pedestrian and wheeling traffic across the bridge will be accommodated at all times with the exception of one or two additional separate overnight closures anticipated later during construction.
