Exploring a Community Fridge for Ward 9

From Ashley Mananquil, Registered Social Worker

Food insecurity is on the rise in Calgary, and it's closely tied to mental health, family wellbeing, and community connection. I'm exploring whether a community fridge could work in Ward 9 — Inglewood, Ramsay, and Bridgeland-Riverside.

The concept is simple: a neighbourhood-stocked fridge where anyone can take what they need or leave what they can. No forms, no stigma — just neighbours looking out for neighbours. A potential sponsor (Eternal Virtue) is ready to fund it once a host site is identified.

Before going further, I want to hear from you. I've put together two short surveys — one for residents, one for local businesses — to gauge interest and support.
